Computing energy-efficient housing layouts

Slider has been researching methods to maximise passive energy gain and minimise the need for expensive high-tech solutions (e.g. solar panels, mechanical ventilation etc.) required to meet the standards and codes set for new housing. The method for computing energy-efficient housing layouts features intrinsic optimisation of several key characteristics such as accessibility, natural insolation and size of floor area.

The computational method combines dynamic self-organisation with parametric modelling and environmental analysis, all brought together in Grasshopper for Rhino. The method is still under development and will be presented in CAADRIA 2014 conference. Slider intends to integrate the method with it’s computational diagramming software for rapid housing scenarios.
